Martin Cummings and Karen Lowe Scholarships:
For the year 2017 we are honored to award two $1000 scholarships and six $500 scholarships in the names of Martin Cummings and Karen Lowe.
Martin Cummings was a resident of Wilson County and a leader in the real estate business here for many years. Martin was a very giving man. He never met a stranger, knew everyone and gave of his time and knowledge.
Karen Lowe is now celebrating her 30th year as director of EMTAR. Her leadership has been outstanding during a time of enormous growth and change in the real estate business in Wilson County. Karen’s enthusiasm is contagious and her encouragement is invaluable to everyone she meets.
To enable the recipient to continue their education in order to pursue their career ambition
The student must be a 2017 graduating senior from a high school in Wilson, DeKalb, or Smith County. The school may be public, private, or registered home school. The student must be planning on attending a college, university, or trade school in the Fall of 2017.
Completed application with all enclosures must be submitted by April 15th, 2017. Incomplete applications, or those received after the submission deadline, will not be eligible for consideration.
Enclosures Required With Application:
- Essay (500 words or less) on why you need and deserve this scholarship.
- Copy of original high school transcript
- 2 letters of recommendation from teachers, school administrators, coaches, pastors, or employers. Letters must be typewritten and signed, and 150 words or less in length. Letters should include how long the writer has known the student and in what capacity, a description of the student’s overall character, and why they believe that the student is deserving of the scholarship. The writer’s email address and phone number must also be included.
