As a REALTOR® member, you belong to three distinct levels of the REALTOR® family – the National Association of REALTORS®, the Tennessee REALTORS®, and the local association level. The Eastern Middle Tennessee Association of REALTORS® (EMTAR) will continually strive to be your partner in success. These three organizational levels make up one of the nation’s largest professional trade association with over 1.3 million members.
Another entity you should know and understand but VERY DIFFERENT from Realtor® Associations is :
TREC – The Tennessee Real Estate Commission
TREC is the state of Tennessee’s regulatory body for Real Estate licensing. It’s purpose is to protect the welfare of the public when it comes to real estate transactions. Specifically, The mission of the Tennessee Real Estate Commission is to protect the public through establishment and administration of minimum requirements for candidates and licensees, effective professional education of licensees and enforcement of professional conduct.
TREC is the state governmental entity that sets the requirements of holding a real estate license, including but not limited to:
- Required Continuing Education
- Real Estate statutory law, policies and rules
- Complaints, Hearings and Disciplinary Actions
