REALTORS® / AFFILIATE BROKERS

TREC requires REALTORS®/Affiliate Brokers to complete 16 hours of state-approved continuing education (6 of which must be the mandatory “TREC Core Course”) every two-year licensing period, prior to the expiration date of your license. The remaining 10 hours must be state-approved elective courses, which may be taken in class or online. In addition, REALTORS®/Affiliate Brokers must complete NAR’s ethics course, which is required every 3 years (current cycle: 2022 – 2024).

BROKERS

TREC requires Brokers to complete 120 post-broker hours by the third-year anniversary of receiving their broker license, including the state-required TREC Core course and 16 hours of continuing education every two years thereafter. (Brokers licensed prior to January 1, 2005 are exempt from continuing education requirements, but must complete NAR’s triannual Code of Ethics class, required by EMTAR.)

TN REAL ESTATE COMMISSION (TREC)

Created in 1951, The Tennessee Real Estate Commission licenses, registers and regulates real estate brokers and affiliate brokers, real estate firms, rental location agents, time-share salespersons and developments, vacation clubs and vacation lodging services.

The Commission also enacts rules addressing professional conduct and standards of practice.

Check Your CE

Beginning June 2022, the Tennessee Real Estate Commission transitioned to CE Broker, a third-party continuing education system.

This is NOT a Knoxville Area Association of REALTORS® decision or change. However, we are here to assist you as our valued member.

In order to view your continuing education, you must create a CE Broker account.

Seminars and Workshops

Educational sessions are a major association benefit and priority. Subjects are carefully selected to meet current and ongoing member needs in the areas of real estate and legal liability training. Association specializes in 1 to 4 hour courses to allow members to take education offering but not have to be away from their work for long periods at a time.

Occasionally EMTAR hosts courses that exceed the 4 hour course, but most of these are either state mandated OR are special classes/courses that designed for professional development. National designations and certifications classes are offered at the EMTAR office as well.

In addition, our many Affiliate members provide FREE Lunch & Learns or other similar workshops. These are usually one hour dynamically packed sources of information that center around the current state of the real estate industry. While CE is usually not involved with these type of sessions, you can’t go wrong with attending and adding this info to your arsenal of professional development.
